  • Full Description:

    Our client is a specialist civil and structural engineering company with a requirement for a Geotechnical Design Engineer to join their team at Burton-on-Trent. The duties will be technically demanding and will include the design of piled foundations, earth retaining structures (piled types), propping and anchoring systems, interpretation and logging of site investigation data, examination and reporting on site issues and advice to operational units on various aspects of piling.

    The Geotechnical Department typically design pile foundations, earth retaining structures, propping and anchoring systems and advise on concrete and steel design. However, much of their work is on unique projects so the solutions are not usually text book; candidates will have the practical experience to draw on to resolve these issues. The role is mainly office based with trips to site when required.

    Typical projects are for industrial/domestic housing; either for large house builders or commercial developers. However, the scope remains to move into more civil engineering projects such as bridges, water treatment works and power stations.

    The position is open to applicants from graduate to senior level, but all candidates are likely to have a Degree in either; Civil Engineering, Engineering Geology, Geotechnical Engineering and, preferably, a Masters in Soil Mechanics, Foundation Engineering or Geotechnical Engineering. Whilst the role is mainly Geotechnical in nature, knowledge in other fields of civil engineering, wider geotechnics and/or structural design (steel and concrete) is highly desirable.

    Graduate level candidates must possess the core technical knowledge having studied foundations and soil mechanics. Experienced candidates must have previous practical Geotechnical and Design experience, preferably relating to piling, concrete, highways agencies and network rail.

    Candidates should be self motivated and capable of working independently in a small and supportive team and will be expected to provide input to design problems/solutions using their engineering knowledge.

    The position offers an attractive package including;
    Negotiable basic salary, depending upon experience, starting at 22k for graduate level.
    Company car with private mileage or car allowance
    25 days holiday
    Pension contributions
    Life assurance
